assign configuration package

There is a configuration file which is used to hold a connectionstring for the ssis packages.
Once the configuration file is created then is it necessary to go to each package and then package configuration to point the package to the configuration file?
It seems the packages do not automatically refer to the config file. Instead each time the config file is changed then all the packages have to be pointed to the config file one by one. i.e. going from Dev to live.
Am I right?
Thanks

Once a package points to a config file, you don't have to do anything when migrating to different environments, provided the package can find that file in the new environment.

aspnetdb connection could not establish but database correctly created.

I installed netframework 2.0 Visual Web developer and MSSQL 2005 express edition with SQL Server management express.

I have got this configuration: 2*256 mb ram Intel Pentium 3.2Ghz Windows XP HUN SP2 latest version.

server name: localhost\SQLEXPRESS
Authentication: Windows Authentication

I run aspnet_regsql.exe and the setup wizard created aspnetdb see here, Microsoft sql server management studio can see the database:
MSSQL server management express & aspnetdb

But! When I run to the asp.net web application administration tool in Provider Configuration and choose
AspNetSqlProvider only 1
then I clickSelect a single provider for all site management data link -> then test

The Tool write this:
Could not establish a connection to the database.
If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web SiteAdministration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility tocreate and configure the database, and then return to this tool to setthe provider.

Hi,

You application does not "know" where your database is. It is trying to find it in App_Data folder of your application. If it is not there you can specify its locaton by using connection string in web.config like this:

<connectionStrings>
<clear/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
</connectionStrings>

asp:login / ASP.NET Configuration menu / & login DB

All,

I may have bitten off a bit much here, but here goes. I'm trying to learn ASP.NET while at the same time learning SQL 2005. I have two machines. One is running Visual Studio 2005 and SQL 2005 Express. The other is my "production" box which is running VWD 2005 and SQL 2005 Standard. I picked up some WROX books and began learning. So far so good until about half way through the book on ASP (keep in mind I haven't learned SQL yet). I learned that I can use the ASP.NET configuration menu to automagically create a database, populate it with users, add them to profiles (groups), and grant them rights to pages. This was kind of neat and it worked fine on my dev box. So I looked up in my SQL book how to detach a DB, copy it over to the other machine and re-attach it. So I copied the whole web site (DB and all, under APP DATA) to the other machine and reattached it. This seemed to go well, however when I tried to log in I recieved an error.

***error

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

After doing some hunting around I discovered that I'm supposed to have a connection string. I checked my web.config file and the only thing I find there is

<

appSettings/>

<

connectionStrings/>

<

system.web>

As you can see this doesn't point to a database which the docs I found say is how you connect to them. Apparently one error someone can run into is between expree and SQL where you have to change the connection string. Well, it's not in the web.config. So I checked the default and login page (and code behind files), but found nothing. So, I'm at a loss. I have no idea where the problem is or where to go from here. Any assistance will be appreciated. While I'm enjoying the journey of learning this, the road seems to be kind of bumpy.

Thanks in advance - Stephen

Hi Stephen,

to change default connection string in web.config you can remove and add new one it's name LocalSqlServer like..

<connectionStrings>
<removename="LocalSqlServer"/>
<addname="LocalSqlServer"connectionString="your connection string..."/>
</connectionStrings>

and give look at this article aboutMembership you will find also how to config Membership

I hope this help

ASP.Net service account gray out

I am installing RS2005 on Windows server 2000 with IIS 5.0. Everything is fine in configuration tool except service account. It is empty. I have added ASPNET account in reportservice user group and tried to add <machinename>\ASPNET to <WebServiceAccount>. It is still empty. Any idea?

Thanks.

Hello,

I believe this is pulled from the Identity of your application pool. Go to IIS and set the identity there and it should be reflected in the RS Configuration Manager.

Hope this helps.

Jarret

Hi,

It seems that application pool is only for IIS6.0. I am using IIS5.0. How can I set the identity in this case

thanks

Ken

|||Therer's no direct way (from RS tools at least) to set IIS5 app pool identities. In fact, there's no way in IIS to set IIS5 app pool identities. I've heard that you can modify a .config file and change the IIS5 app pool identity, but I've not tried this myself.|||Yes, I have changed <WebServiceAccount> tag in RSReportServer.config but it doesn't work. I think Jarret is right. The identity is from somewhere in IIS setting.

I also installed report service in XP pro. I don't need to set anything to let it work. I am not sure if there is something special in Windows 2000 Server.

Has anyone installed Report service 2005 on Windows 2000 server successfully? Please give comment. I appreciate it.

ASP.NET Configuration with VWD 2005 Express Ed.

I am deploying a new website (hosted at Godaddy.com) and want to take advantage of some of the power VWD 5005 offers. Specificaly the 'ASP.NET Configuration' under the 'Website' menu item. How do I go about using the ASP.NET Configuration on a site that is hosted? Is it possible? I want to be able to add new rolls, create some users manually and set permissions on directories. If I cant use ASP.NET Configuration how do i go about this task in a hosted environment. My host is GoDaddy.com

Thank you,

Unfortunately the ASP .NET Web Site Administration Tool?can?only?be?used?to?manage?local?applications.?

Fortunate some tools are available to manage corresponding records in membership database,?you?can take a look at this?tool:

http://peterkellner.net/2006/01/09/microsoft-aspnet-20-memberrole-management-with-iis/

asp.net configuration tool

I deployed a web site, and converted SQL Server Express to a single SQL Server 2005 database. I created all of the tables required for memberships and roles with aspnet_regsql.exe.

Real simple question - how can I populate the membership and role tables out on the server? When I attach VWD to it, the ASP.NET Configuration tool is gone. How do you maintain memberships and roles without the tool?

Thanks for any help you will share :)

It's been a long journey but I am finally here!

Hi CK,

I'm going to punt on this one.

The ASP.net forums is a better place to ask questions about ASP.net and Visual Web Developer. You can find all the forums at http://forums.asp.net/ and the forum that is specifically about SQL Express in VWD at http://forums.asp.net/54/ShowForum.aspx.

I can't redirect outside of MSDN, so you'll need to repost the question in the new forum.

Hi mike,

You helped me SO MUCH already on other questions -- xoxo

I'll buy you a beer if you are in redmond and when I get this one figured out.

Are you in?

It's beer time Mike.

VWD asp.net configuration tool successfully allowed me to update roles and memberships.

My web site is up and running.

For future reference, this article was of help: 4guysfromrolla.com article 040506-1

thanks again for helping me - let's go!
